I was privileged to meet Jenepher, an elderly lady in a care home in Norfolk. Despite a fast fading memory , Jenepher (an Irish spelling) delighted me by recalling a visit, from what was then Russell's Circus, to her convent school in Great Yarmouth. "A disaster", she said, "the chimpanzees were terrified of the nuns and set off on their little bicycles!" I was still smiling about her story on the way home and vowed to paint it, it took me the best part of a year. Sadly, Jenepher didn't see the finished painting but I was able to share Jenepher's Circus Memory with her son.
